Summer Fun on the 101 is so lucky to be having local songstress Nena Anderson as a headliner this year (6/28 @ Roadside Park). Having grown up in Encinitas, this daughter of a surfboard shaper is totally stoked to be playing in front of a hometown crowd in Leucadia.

For those who don’t know much about her, Nena has been active in the San Diego music scene for about two decades. She’s been known for playing solo, forming her own groups (Brawley, Nena Anderson and the Mules), singing the June Carter parts for Johnny Cash tribute Cash’d Out and sharing the stage with other local legends such as Gilbert Castellanos, Adrien Demain and many others.

While she’s versatile enough to have been nominated for 11 SD Music Awards in 4 different categories (Best jazz, Best Acoustic, Best Americana, Best New Artist), Nena’s sound is best described as Americana. Her songs are a blending of different traditional American styles such as blues, country, folk, jazz and rock.

The beautiful tunes and lyrics that Nena writes combine smoothly with her sultry vocals and seasoned stage presence. She has a truly an original voice, so go ahead and check her songs out. We know you’ll love them no matter where your musical tastes fall.
